July 25, 2015 Dear Gardening Friends, WE NEED YOUR VOTE! It's time for the LA Weekly's Annual "Best Of" competition, and a La Canada Market friend told us today that there is a Category called "Best Place to Buy Plants"  (!!!I know!!!)   The first round of voting ends Sunday, August 9th; if we are a front-runner, we'll have to face off in the second round of voting which begins Monday, August 17th. (We'll let you know!)   The Winners will be revealed in the "Best of L.A." issue which hits newsstands on October 1st!   It's super easy, just click here and scroll down to the Category called "Best Place to Buy Plants" and type in "Two Dog Organic Nursery" The LA Weekly is a publication we've longed to be featured in for ages, but as we've gotten busier and busier, my time as our "Press Agent" has basically disappeared. Won't you help us in this excellent annual competition?   We'd very much appreciate your vote!!        Sweet Potatoes!!   Remember, our inventory on Beauregard and All Purple Certified Organic Sweet Potato plants is very limited!   Get them in the ground now...they want 100 hot days!   You can expect to yield roughly 2 pounds of sweet potatoes per plant. They are $6 each and you can buy them here:    SWEET POTATOES on twodognursery.com      They’re easy to grow, and the leaves are edible and nutritious… I usually throw a few into our breakfast smoothies.  They are, of course, Certified Organic.  We've written up a “Helpful Guide” on how to grow them…   CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE  SWEET POTATO GROWING GUIDE It’s an entirely different process than growing regular Potatoes, and it includes “curing” them to convert their starch into sugar; I found this to be extremely easy, just leaving them in our oven with only the pilot light lit, and bowls of water underneath, for 10-12 days. Oh.so.sweet!    AUGUST OPEN HOUSE!
